Our beloved Astrid Patricia “Pat” Bertram, 86, of Austin, Texas, slipped away on January 19, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Pat was born and raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, the only child of Gustav Patrick and Gladys (Johnson) Anderson. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, her hometown, which at one point was known as “the iron ore capital of the world,” and the majestic Hibbing High School where she played the snare drum in the marching band. High school was a blast with Jack Bertram by her side, her sweetheart she first met in eighth grade. After marriage, Pat and Jack began their Air Force life and started their family while stationed in Montgomery, Alabama; Alexandria, Louisiana; two tours at Clark Air Base, The Philippines; San Bernardino, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico and Austin, Texas.
At each destination, golf was a favorite family sport and Pat became an avid, accomplished golfer. She loved the outdoors, animals, and gathering with the family. She especially enjoyed being part of the weekly Bethany Lutheran Bible Study for many years. Pat was an excellent cook, and we loved it when she would play her rendition of “Blue Moon” on the piano. Her gentle, selfless disposition and loving soul enhanced her natural beauty. She was the perfect mom and wife. After Jack’s Air Force retirement, they settled in Austin, where Pat worked several seasons for the Internal Revenue Service and then she became a systems analyst with the Texas Workforce Commission until her retirement.
Pat is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, John (Jack) William Bertram; daughter Cathy Bertram Wilson, son Michael Bertram and his wife Janet, daughter Jackie Bertram Kaufman and her husband Chris, and son Jeff Bertram and his wife Dené; her grandchildren Shawn Bertram and wife Christy, Christina Collier, Zach Wilson and his wife Carla, Ben Bertram and his wife Hannah Harkey, Nick Wilson, Lindsey Kaufman, Jaclyn Roach and her husband Blake, Jacob Cole and Laurel Tucker and her husband Brent; her great- grandchildren Kaitlyn Bertram, Emma Bertram, Teddy Wilson, Xylia Bertram, Liv Wilson, Savannah Roach, Charlotte Roach and Cate Wilson; her niece Michelle Hyatt and her cousin Kenny Johnson.
Pat’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Jean Banks, Michelle Goheen, the memory care staff of Brookdale Beckett Meadows and Magnolia Hospice nursing staff for their kindness, support and care shown to her during her illness over the past years.
