Bain was born May 1, 1960 in Marquette, Michigan to Bill and Carol Powell. During his youth Bain lived in several areas as his Father was in the military and stationed in northern and southern California, Michigan, Virginia, Naples, Italy and lastly in Austin, Texas. Bain was glad to “settle down” in Austin and not have to move. He arrived in time to begin high school at L.C. Anderson High School from which he graduated in May of 1978. Following high school, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. His love for electronics and hi-tech led him to attend the Southwest School of Electronics in Austin and then to enter the chip manufacturing/semi-conductor industry. Bain worked at Motorola for many years, ATMI in Burnet, Texas, then back to Austin at Photronics and finally to Freescale. He loved everything associated with computers, technology and electronics.
Bain truly had a “green thumb” and loved the outdoors. Whether it was gardening, developing his Mom’s flower garden, enjoying fishing trips to Canada with the family or swimming, skiing on the lakes near Austin – he enjoyed it all. He was also an animal lover, spending much time observing animals in the wild and caring for any animal needing care. This resulted in him adopting two homeless dogs “Buddy” and Sassy”. He cared for them over twelve years and prior to his death made sure they would continue to receive care and be adopted.
All of Bain’s love of the outdoors and his love for animals is attributed to his heritage of Delaware-Cherokee Indian of which he took great pride.
Bain joins those family members who predeceased him: his maternal grandparents Ethel and Ray Depew, his paternal grandparents Ruth and Oliver Powell.
Bain loved his stepson Christopher Thomas; his brother, Brad Powell and wife Belinda and their children Kailynn, William and Maxwell; his Aunts and Uncles, Norma and Allison Mayfield of Des Monies, Washington, Wykeemah and Lloyd Chumley of Wichita, Kansas; and Jerry and Ginger Powell of Topeka, Kansas. Bain also had many cousins, nephews and nieces he loved dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Bain’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2011 at Cook-Walden Chapel of The Hills Funeral Home in Austin, Tx. Immediately following the service, a private inurnment will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Tx.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests any donations be made to: Austin Animal Rescue c/o Town Lake Center, 1156 West Cesar Chaves, Austin, TX 78703 in his memory or to any charity of your choosing.
