Born in Fort Worth, TX on March 19, 1951 to Vladislav and Marie Rose Jurada, Barbara completed her primary and secondary education at Catholic schools before enrolling at The University of Texas at Austin, where she studied Early Childhood Education and Spanish. After graduation, she spent time traveling through Mexico and became fluent in Spanish. Over her 40 plus years as a bilingual teacher in El Paso, TX, she touched the lives of so many through her endless support and unwavering commitment to her students, many of whom were underserved. Her true calling, however, was as a grandmother when she became affectionately known as “Bibi”.
Barbara was a devout Catholic whose faith was central to her identity and guided her throughout life. She spent her days gardening, cooking, practicing yoga, and embracing her love of Mexican food and culture. But the thing that gave her the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her two sisters Mary and Kathy, her former husband and father of her children, Abie, her three daughters and their spouses, Christina and Steve, Andrea and Mike, Catherine and Mario, and her 5 grandchildren, Benjamin, Julian, Michael, Camille, and James.
Barbara will be remembered as kind, selfless, patient, and endlessly loving. Her light brightened the lives of all who crossed her path, and she will be dearly missed. Visitation and Rosary will be held on June 9, 2025 from 4-8 pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, TX, 78750. Funeral mass will be held on June 10, 2025 at 10 am at Saint Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr. Austin, TX, 78731. Flowers may be sent to Cook-Walden Chapel of Hills.
