The heavens are telling the Glory of God…and welcoming Barbara Sue Guentzel Johnson as their newest angel. She got her wings on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 after 81 years of earthly life which began on June 5, 1930. Born to Arbie and Lillian Guentzel (both deceased) in Houston, the second of three children.
Sue leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved sister, Glenda Gummelt (Garry Gummelt, husband) having been predeceased by one brother, Gene Guentzel.
Sue would become very familiar with doctors and hospitals as she grew into womanhood, always greeting each challenge with her chin jutted out, a smile that lit up any room and a twinkle in her eye, just daring anyone to stop her. She went out with the same attitude deciding it was time to see what heaven was like.
She met her one true love, Harvey “H.L.” Johnson on Thanksgiving Day of 1946 and were happily married for 46 years until H.L. passed away on Thanksgiving Day of 1993. Together they made a life of love, laughter and grand times with their daughter, Debbie L. Johnson (spouse, Mark Glubczynski).
They were blessed with the birth of one grandson, Aaron Glubczynski. With their little family intact, they made many memories with many camping and hunting trips all over Texas and throughout the U.S.A. even crossing the pond to visit England when Aaron was born. They shared this love of the outdoors with numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Sue enjoyed 32 years as a faithful employee of TAISO as an insurance auditor until she retired in 1992. Sue would want us to thank the kind team of hospital nurses and doctors who helped her transition from Heart Hospital of Austin (floor 2) and her brief stay at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House of Austin.
We especially thank a trio of women who are Deb’s adopted sisters at heart, Eileen Deeter, Janet Applegate and Penny Weibly. They made this journey for her mom so beautiful with their many sacrifices for Sue’s family. Most of all, Sue thanks her God for giving her courage to step through this life into eternal life and invites all to give him their attention. He makes all things possible and perfect.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the following: Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, American Heart Association or to St. Catherine of Siena.
