On the afternoon of July 15, 2020 Bennie Lynn Williams Nystrom, in similar fashion to the butterflies she so avidly loved, emerged from the cocoon of this mortal life to spread her beautiful wings before the Creator and fly with all of those who had gone before.
Devoted wife, gentle and loving mother, and steadfast friend to many. Bennie was many things to a myriad of people and her warm smile and graceful manner will be missed by those who remain. A woman of stunning beauty, keen intellect and cheerful wit, she gave freely of herself to those in need taking satisfaction from simply being able to help.
Born to this world October 13, 1941 to devout and affectionate parents Ben and Jewel James Williams, Bennie was so named because it was hoped that this third child of theirs would be a boy. She grew up with her sisters LaNelle Williams and Joy Callahan in South Austin, Texas and was raised in the Christian faith at Congress Avenue Baptist Church where her father served as deacon. Though she would eventually travel the world she never moved far from her South Austin roots. A proud Travis High School Rebel, she made many life long friends and was active in many scholastic pursuits and was named Football Sweetheart for 1958 and 1959. She would continue to explore and enjoy numerous interests from tennis to square dancing to antiquing and travel. Starting her career at the Travis County District Clerks office she would go on to work for the most flamboyant attorney in Austin, Paul Holt. She would retire as office manager for one of Austin's most prestigious law firms Minton, Burton, Foster and Collins. After retiring she and husband Gerry spent their time loving on grandkids, exploring for depression glass and other treasures, enjoying the Hill Country views from their pool and would frequently punctuate it all with a gambling trip to Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Her smile, warmth, care and love are missed by those who cannot see her in new form. These include husband Gerry Nystrom, son Randy Anderson (Sandy), daughter Karen Diaz (Lorenzo), son Ron Anderson (Binky), their father Allan Anderson (Nancy), grandchildren Amy, Taylor, Tiffany and Rachael, Nine great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Though absent in presence from remaining family and friends Bennie is now reunited with her father, mother and sisters in God's Heavenly realms. There are not pages nor ink enough in this world to chronicle the many exploits, adventures, understanding conversations, loving temperament, well spent and lived life of this remarkable woman. Bennie will live on in all of our memories and recollections until that glorious day when we too will behold the colorful, free-flying butterfly she has become.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com for the Nystrom family.
