Benton Nichols "Nick" Elliott passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born on December 18, 1930 in Waco, Texas, to Mattie Elizabeth Knott and William Edward Elliott. He was the youngest of four children.
He and his wife, Jane, moved to Austin in 2007 in order to be closer to their daughter after having lived in Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, and Horseshoe Bay.
Nick grew up in Houston, Texas where he and Jane attended Lamar High School together. He also attended the University of Texas where he played center field for the Texas Longhorns Baseball team. He was an avid sports fan his entire life and especially loved watching his Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. He never met a stranger and was dearly loved by everyone that knew him. He loved and was so proud of his family and will be greatly missed by all of us.
Nick was predeceased by his parents and three siblings -- brother, William "Bill" Edward Elliott, Jr. and sisters, Sarah Josephine "Jo" Landrum (John) and Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Ben). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Ann Beale Elliott; daughter Kimberly Ann Elliott Hill (Austin); daughter Karon Elaine Elliott Edleson and son-in-law Louis Bert "Chip" Edleson (San Diego, CA); and son, Mark Benton Elliott (Dallas, TX).
He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Richard Tyler Hill and husband Michael Mitchell (Charleston, SC), Chase Elliott Hill and wife Haley (Denver, CO), Courtney Elizabeth Hill (New York, NY), Lauren Elaine Edleson Powell and husband Adam (Los Angeles, CA), Lee Bryant Edleson and wife Janna (San Luis Obispo, CA), and Kristin Elliott Cheatham (Dallas); and one great grandson, Jonathan Lee Cheatham. He is also survived by several nieces and one very special cousin, Nancy Pennington (Overland Park, KS). He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Kody.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 2:00 PM, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, family requests that contributions be made to Austin Humane Society (124 West Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78752) or a charity of your choice. Dad never met a dog he didn't love!
