Our dear mother passed away on September 16, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Some of the world’s goodness and love left with her. Beth Irene Macy Gibbs was born on August 23, 1930 to Reverend Charles S. Macy and Dorothy J. Phipps in Liscomb, Iowa. Beth was the youngest of three daughters Twila and Lila were her beloved older sisters.
Beth graduated high school in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1948 and attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. There she met the true love of her life, George Murry Gibbs. They were married on June 2, 1951 in Aurora, Missouri. Beth put her studies aside to allow George to finish his education and to receive his Master’s of Divinity degree. Their ministry took them across Oklahoma and Texas for the next 43 years. Beth was the perfect preacher’s wife. She enjoyed her years of service to her Lord. She sang in church choirs, taught Sunday school classes, Vacation Bible School, Christian Womens Fellowship and cooked many meals for others.
Beth is survived by her three children, her sons David Gibbs, Charles Gibbs and wife Mayra, and daughter Janna Nash and husband Jack. She was blessed with three grandchildren. John and Jordan (deceased) Nash, Jennifer Staples and husband John. Her three great grandchildren, Virginia Nash and George and Bobby Staples, were lucky enough to know her love. She was also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
We will miss that beautiful smile you possessed to your final days, but know with certainty we will see it again one day.
We would like to thank Hospice Austin for their care of our mother and to Rosibel Pilkenton for her hours of caring and love.
We will celebrate Beth’s life with a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Hospice Austin or to a church or a charity of your choice.
