

Betty Russell Vander Straten Betty Russell Vander Straten went to meet her Lord on July 11, 2005 in Austin, TX. She was born in Sinton, TX on August 31, 1939 to Estha Childress Russell and Daniel Fred Russell of Sinton, TX. From fourth grade through high school, she attended The First Baptist Church in Sinton, of which her grandparents were charter members and where she later married. After graduating from Sinton High School, she came to Austin, TX where she attended Nixon Clay Business College. After completing the course, she went to work as a secretary in the Bridge Division of the Texas Highway Department, now known as TXDOT. There she met her future husband, a young civil engineer, Richard Vander Straten, III. After their marriage, they remained in Austin where they reared three wonderful children. She devoted her time to her family and volunteered in her childrens schools and Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was a member for 32 years. After 29 years of caring for her family and parents, she began working at the First Baptist Church, Austin, TX as a secretary to the Minister of Music. She worked there for six and ½ years. After her husbands retirement, they delighted in traveling to visit the children and grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter Lynn Vander Straten Angermeier and husband, Glenn; son Richard Vander Straten, IV and wife, Mary; son Dr. David Vander Straten and wife, Dr. Melody Vander Straten. Her grandchildren whom she adored are Rachel Elise, Wesley Glenn and Charlotte Lynn Angermeier; Catherine Maric Katie and Richard Beck Vander Straten, V, and Teagan and Tryne Vander Straten; sister, Patricia Wiles, her husband, Dwight Wiles and nephews and families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Estha and Fred Russell. Donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Childrens Homes and Services, or World Vision/Senegal, Africa. Visitation hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Blvd. with reception following. Memorials and guestbook online at wcfish.com
