

Following graduation he joined the U.S Army Reserve and attended A&M University under the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program. He later entered active duty for two years and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1947.
He then enrolled at the University of Houston where he received a Bachelor's Degree and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army's OMC ROTC program first class in 1950. He went on active duty during the Korean War in 1951 and served command and staff positions until his retirement in 1971 as a Lt. Colonel. During his career he served assignments overseas Germany, Korea, Vietnam and stateside tours of duty in numerous states. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration at the University of Texas in 1962 and later graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College in 1967. Bill commanded a supply and service battalion in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star.
Following his retirement from the Army, Bill worked for the Department of Human Services from 1971 until 1990 in medical programs as an Administrative Assistant and Program Manager.
For many years Bill covered University of Texas football and basketball games for several radio stations in Texas.
Bill was very interested in history and was an avid tourist having visited most countries in Europe, Central and South America as well as several countries in Asia.
He was married to Christa Neuroth Pierce in 1960. Their one child is Miss Patricia Pierce of Austin and brother, Gene Pierce. Bill was also the father of the late Nora Boyd of Riverside, CA and Ms. Susan Pierce of League City, TX. His brothers were the late Milton, Homer, Glenn, Ross and Lloyd. His sister was the late Mrs. Eileen Gelinksi of San Antonio.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Camp Wood, TX.
