

Billy Joe Keating, age 86, of Austin, Texas passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011. He was born on January 24, 1924 to Charles M. and Nannie Mae Standifer Keating in Austin, Texas. Billy was an Austin High graduate of 1942. He entered the service in March 1943 and served in the 82nd Army Airborne Division receiving a Field Promotion to Corporal and was discharged in January 1946. He served on the European front and fought in the “Battle of the Bulge”. Billy was employed with Austin Tribune, Daily Texan, S. F. Austin Hotel, Austin American Statesman, Von Boeckmann-Jones, and UT of Austin Printing Division. He had many interests which included UFOs, fishing, repairing items and family. He was a man of many talents, which included carpentry, mechanics and playing guitar. He had a patent for a safety device for printing presses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vanell W. Keating; brother, Charles S. Keating and great granddaughter Peyton Fryer.
Billy is survived by daughter, Karen Keating; sons, Billy V. Keating and wife Linda, Ken Keating; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Austin Memorial Park 2800 Hancock Dr. Austin, Texas 78731 with Reverend Gordon Bergstrom officiating.
Honoring Billy and serving as Pallbearers will be grandsons, Matthew Glass, Daniel Glass, Aaron Glass, Billy E. Keating, Michael Keating, and Jason Keating. Honorary Pallbearers will be the granddaughters, Amber Jernigan, Kimberly Winegarner, Tracy Fryer, and Courtney Keating.
