

He was survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia Louise Christal. He married Pat on September 14, 1963. Billy was a rock mason by trade. Later, Billy became a machinist and worked for Tracor and CarboMedics. He spent his retired years working on his yard, saving cats, and making broken things whole again. He volunteered at the Dripping Springs Senior Citizens Thrift Shop and for a church downtown handing out bread to people in need. He spent a lifetime attending his children and grand children’s school activities from band to sporting events and everything in between.
Billy Joe is preceded by his siblings, BJ Cartwell, Ruby Pruett, Dorothy Simpson, and Charles Simpson.
Billy Joe is survived by sons, Billy, Bryan, Jerry, and Mark; daughters-in-law, Wendy, Bobbie, and Angela; grandchildren, Justin, Sterling, Derek, Sheldon, Sarah, Michael, Spencer, Elizabeth, Nick, Toby, Josh, Julie, Chris, and Mathew; siblings, Wilburn Simpson, Floyd Simpson, Eugene Simpson, Jimmy Simpson, Calvin Simpson, Pauline Swatzlander, Christene Watts, Joan Chaney and Fred Simpson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Reverend Oscar James to officiate. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Honoring Mr. Simpson as pallbearers will be Bobby Simpson, Cory Roten, Michael Simpson, James Reed, Justin Roten, Freddy Simpson, Wesley Simpson, and Dale Christal.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Pruett, and Jordan Simpson.
