

A man whose faith sustained him through numerous lifelong physical and medical challenges, Byron overcame all obstacles with his wit, perseverance and refusal to accept being told there was something he could not do.
He was born October 4, 1940, in Battle Creek MI to Dr. Henry J. and Mildred Otto, both now deceased. He earned undergraduate and graduate business degrees from St. Edward's University and was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University the University of Texas at Austin in 1968.
Byron is survived by brother, Dr. Gordon H. Otto and his wife, Dr. Helen Otto; niece, Ellen Fendley, her husband, James and children, Christine and Greg; and niece, Linda ZumBrunnen, her husband, Les and children, Ryan and Rachel.
He was very proud of his family heritage, and particularly held his father, his uncle Martin and his brother Gordon in high regard as mentors and role models.
An attorney by training and disposition, he was in private practice for a number of years and worked for the State of Texas for more than 25 years including long service for the Comptroller of Pubic Accounts. He remained interested in the law and loved political discourse.
A noted scholar, he was recognized in the Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the World. He had several articles published in the Texas Bar Journal and remained a member of the State Bar of Texas. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters and the ACLU. Byron was a regular contributor to the newsletter at the senior community where he lived many years.
He will be missed by numerous friends, associates and individuals who worked for and with him and who looked forward to his jokes.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2:00 pm on Friday, June 3. 2016 St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery next to his parents' gravesites.
