Cal E. Dodgen

Cal Dodgen Cal Dodgen of Lakeway died Monday, June 7, 2004. Cal was born Clarence Emmett Dodgen, Jr. in Krum, Texas on February 2, 1925. Clarence Sr. worked for the railroad and the family lived in several central Texas communities before moving to Austin where Cal graduated from Austin High School in the summer of 1942. He immediately joined the Marines and served four years in the states and overseas. The day he returned to Austin, March 7, 1946, Cal was invited to a party for returning serviceman at Hyde Park Christian Church. It was there that he met Juanita Buck. The couple were married August 26th and have lived happily together for almost 58 years. Cal used his GI Bill to attend the U of T and graduated in 1953. He went to work for Chance Vought (now LTV) and the family lived in Arlington for 30 years. Cal was active in the First Christian Church. On retirement, Cal and Juanita moved to the Lake Travis area, where Cal’s greatest love was sailing, and in 1997 to Lakeway. Cal enjoyed participating in various social events and his sense of humor was often apparent at the Bridge table. He loved the bit parts he played for the Lakeway Players, especially the part of Judge Roy Has Bean. He is survived by his wife, by two older siblings, Kay Perry of Mesquite and Weldon C. Dodgen of Austin, and two younger sisters, Frances Balagia of Austin, and Bobby Wier of Georgetown. His five children survive him: Diane Torres of Fort Worth, David Dodgen and wife Gail, of Miami, Florida, Debi Kephart and husband Phil, of Austin, Max Dodgen and wife Carol, of Austin and Martha Dodgen of Arlington. He also adored his nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, Texas.
