Carey was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 3, 1949 to Thurman B. and Sharon Smith Geddie. She graduated from the University of Texas and was retired from Austin Energy. She continued to work for Texas County District Retirement System.
Carey is survived by her husband, Stephen Chastain; daughter, Ryan McNeil and husband, Chase; the light of her life granddaughter, Kamryn Ashlin McNeil; father, Thurman B. Geddie and wife, Beverly; mother-in-law, Jeanne Sellers; sister-in-law, Cynthia Wilson and husband, Howard; stepdaughter, Stephanie Chastain; sister, April Watson and husband, Robert; sister, Susan O'Brien and husband, Stephen; brother, Tony Geddie and wife, Teresa; stepbrother, Bruce Lowry and wife, Pam; stepsister, Linda Lowry; 15 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews.
