Carol Rollins Germain

Carol Rollins Germain of Chester, South Carolina passed away on August 25, 2023, at the age of 80. She was born on April 3, 1943, in Chester, South Carolina where she grew up with her mother, step-father, aunt Faye, and many cousins and friends.

She graduated from Chester High School and went to college in the state to receive her teaching degree at an all-female college in the early 1960s. She worked and loved being a high school and middle school English teacher at Lewisville High School, Chester Middle School, and the Chester Adult Education Center upon her return to Chester in the early 1990s. Prior to her return, she lived in Fairfax - Virginia, St. Croix – US Virgin Islands, Cuernavaca - Mexico and Buffalo - New York, where she raised a family and worked alongside her husband in the antique industry.

She was actively involved in playing bridge with her long-time friend group, helping any student in need of extra tutoring support, restoring old furniture, finding the best sale at the mall, visiting her Texas family, reading her favorite books poolside, taking trips to Myrtle Beach, and enjoying a glass of white wine with her friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother - Lina Louise Yarborough, her father - Prince Albert Rollins, and her husband – Dominic Eugene (“Gene”) Germain.

She is survived by her son – Dominic (“Nick”) Germain (Lorry Palacios-Germain – wife). They are parents to Carol’s grandchildren (Giana and Anthony) who enjoyed having their “Noni” live with them in Austin during the past year as she courageously battled cancer. She made sure to teach them how to play uno, phase ten, blackjack, dominoes, and how to play the lotto (as she said…you have to be in it to win it!).

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 4800 Convict Hill Road, Austin, Texas 78749 on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10am Central (a Rosary will be held prior to mass at 9:30am). After the mass, please join the family for a reception honoring Carol at Nick and Lorry’s house located at 6300 Zadock Woods.
