Carole was born on March 11, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. As the daughter of a career Army man, she moved around to various bases and graduated from Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia. Carole attended Ferrum College in Virginia and graduated with an English degree from Greensboro College in North Carolina.
Carole joined the Army and worked as a recruiter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she met Edward A. O’Harrow, who was in the Air Force and stationed at Kirkland Air Force Base. Ed was then transferred to a base in Turkey, and while he was on a thirty day leave, the two met in London, England, where they were married on May 1, 1974. The couple settled in Austin, Texas, where Carole spent most of her career working in manufacturing and training at Motorola while raising her family. After retiring from Motorola in 2003, Carole spent her time caring for friends and family, enjoying television cooking shows, reading, working on arts and crafts projects, and getting to the beach as often as possible. Carole was always ready to listen, cook, bake, babysit, pet-sit and house-sit. Those who knew Carole best recognized her as an angel on earth who epitomized kindness, caring, and compassion.
Carole is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Pershing Fischesser and Helen Louise Cacace Fischesser. Carole is survived by her sister, Gail Camplair of Tennessee, her husband of 45 years, Edward A. O’Harrow, two sons Sean Edward O’Harrow and Charles Ryan O’Harrow, and their wives Norma and Aysia. The lights of her life were her grandchildren – Gilbert, Edward, Gabrael, Adela, and Bane.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carole O’Harrow may be made to either the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, to support her love of the Texas spring wildflowers, or to the Susan G. Komen foundation, since she was a proud breast cancer survivor.
