Born May 22, 1945, at Randolf Army Air Base, Bexar County, TX, to Clara May and Fredrick Ogden, she attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Art. Carolyn was an amazing artist and painted her first portrait in 1962, an oil of her father as a young child (“Boy with a Bitten Apple”).
Carolyn was also a dedicated teacher. She received a Student Teacher of the Year Award. She went back to school as a mom with 2 children and graduated with a Masters in Science Education. She taught people of all ages and abilities, and was a devoted 5th grade Sunday School teacher for 20+ years.
As seen in so much of her artwork, she lived and visited many different places -- including Italy, France and Germany -- before settling in Austin. She was an active member in the Waterloo Watercolor Group and won several awards. She was a licensed amateur radio operator (KE5DTS). Carolyn touched the lives of many people from all over the world. She was a good friend, finding things in common with everyone she met.
Carolyn will be especially remembered for her quick wit, open and nurturing nature, generosity, and the ability to see the beauty everywhere she went and in everyone she met.
Survivors include her true love, Joe Ralph Canfield; her adoring daughters, Mary Brush and Christine Lincoln; siblings, Bill Ogden & Mary Walker; grandchildren- Derrick, Heather, Kailyn, David, Mason, Kendall, Elise, McClain and Kelsey; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX, 78750. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception at Bethany.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to Hospice Austin, who provided excellent care to Carolyn in the last weeks of her life -- http://www.hospiceaustin.org/get-involved/donate/ or World Vision a cause near to Carolyn’s heart -- http://donate.worldvision.org/
Special thanks to the many people at Bethany United Methodist for all their help and support.
