Catherine K. Ray

Catherine K. Ray Catherine Ray, 89, passed away Wednesday, September 8th in Austin, Texas at Westminster Health Care Center. Catherine was born September 14, 1914 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Dallas and attended Hardin Simmons University. After her marriage she resided in Amarillo, Texas for many years until she moved to Houston, Texas when her husband became ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Frank Ray in 1979, after 45 years of marriage. Catherine is survived by her son, Frank and his wife Beverly of Pinehurst, N.C., their children Mark and Steven, and grandchildren Sam and Jessie, her daughter Mary and her husband Joel Taylor of Austin, TX, and their children Whitney and Scott and grandchildren Ashley and Aaron, and son, Robert and his wife Tina of San Antonio, and their children Callie and Scarlette and grandchildren Amy and Ashton. Our mother showed our family by example, the true meaning of the words, grace, dignity, courage, and accepting whatever life dealt you. After the death of her husband she picked up the pieces of her life and created a full independent life for herself. Her days were filled with attending meetings for all types of organizations, her favorite bridge games, and just having fun with all of her friends. After a severe stroke she had to leave her independent life, her home, and all of her dear friends that meant so much to her, but again she showed by example that you hold your head up and go on with life. A private family memorial service will be conducted at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel on Sunday, September 12th. Interment will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at Westminster Manor.
