

C. B. Morgette (Council Bruton) was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, September 23, 1924. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on November 26, 2014. C.B. grew up in West Texas. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy in June, 1943 and served in the Pacific on the USS Sarasota as a Radioman until his honorable discharge in April, 1946. During his service, he was awarded the American Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star.
Mr. Morgette graduated from North Texas State College in 1951, where he met Mary Lou Nelson. They were married on November 3, 1951. C.B. worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company in El Paso before they moved to Austin in 1955. Mr. Morgette worked as a Right of Way agent at the Texas Highway Dept. until he retired in 1986.
C.B. accepted Christ as his Savior and has been a member of Allandale/Great Hills Baptist Church for many years.
He is survived by Mary Lou Morgette, his wife of 63 years; daughter, Lyn Morgette Trott and her husband Gary, their children Jeffrey of Beeville and Joel of Pflugerville; daughter, Sally Morgette Bass and her husband Brad, their children Calvin and Will Bass of Plainview, and Meredith Bass of Chicago. He is also survived by a brother, Jim Morgette of Greenwood, and sisters, Janie Barnes of Odessa, and Celia Pender of Midland.
