Cecil Jones

Cecil Harold Jones, age 72, of Austin, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 from complications of pneumonia and COPD. He was born January 19, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to parents Wilford D. Jones and Evelyn Pressley Jones.

Cecil graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, and went on to graduate from the University of Texas in 1961 with a B.S. in Pharmacy. Cecil began his career working for Upjohn Pharmaceutical. He later went to work for Scott & White Hospital, then the Pharmacy Director at the Austin State School, as well as the Chief Pharmacist for the Texas Department of Health.

After retirement in 2003, Cecil became very active in the First Presbyterian Church as an Elder and Stephen Minister. He volunteered his time with Mobile Loaves & Fishes. Cecil was a board member with the American Lung Association. Cecil was also a member of the Mayfair Dance Club and the Knife and Fork Club.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents; his son Kevin Andrew Jones; and brother Clifford Jones.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years, Shirley Snipes Jones; daughters Kari Ramirez and husband Ramiro, Tracy Nordstrom and husband David; three grandchildren Taylor, Mason, and Peyton; and many other loving family members and friends.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Roger Drake, Ramiro Ramirez, David Nordstrom, Gary Silcott, Don Hauck, Winston Depew, Dick Miller, and dick Rew.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, at 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, TX 78731. Interment will follow at the Mission Burial Park North in San Antonio, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, or a charity of your choice.
