
Memorial services for Charles Allen Cantwell, age 69, of Austin, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23 at First Presbyterian Church of Austin, with Dr. Terrence Sherry and the Rev. Tom Deviney officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Bergstrom, Jerry Tucker, Bob Gold, Chuck Strong, Dennis Watson, Lolo Guerra, Gary Francis and Terry Belt. Mr. Cantwell died at 1:07 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at St. David's hospital in Austin following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 6, 1940 in Austin, the son of Charley Andrew and Edna Katherine Cantwell. He graduated from Austin High School in 1958. Mr. Cantwell married Winn Watson on Sept. 2, 1978 in Austin. He was self-employed in the automotive industry and for the last several years ran A-1 Discount Tire in Austin. He was a former Jaycee of the Year with the Austin Jaycees, was a member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, was a Vice-Commodore of Austin Aqua Fest and was involved with Fiesta at Laguna Gloria. Mr. Cantwell was a former elder at First Presbyterian Church in Austin. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend — the tall man with a big heart. Survivors include his wife, Winn, of Austin; two sons, Jeff Cantwell of Austin and Brett Cantwell of Lubbock; two daughters, Lisa Akard and her husband, Ron, of Katy and Angela Cantwell of Austin; two sisters, Nancy Weaver of Round Rock and Carolyn Ann Dillard of Mabank; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Akard of San Marcos and Cole Akard of Katy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
