Chuck was born a preemie in Streator, Illinois, specifically two turns after the first cornfield, a left after the third, and then a right onto Main Street. His parents, Mary (Ma) and Charles Albert Gautschy raised Chuck alongside his two brothers, Ray and Phill, making for three of the most amazing (and mischievous) men to grace this earth, and now, reunited above once again.
Chuck attended the University of Illinois, where he received his Bachelor of Engineering and met his wife of 55 years, Jo Jo. After graduation, he carried on a successful career with Amoco (BP) for 38 years. Chuck and Jo Jo were partners in parenting, tearing up a dance floor, and traveling throughout 56 countries until her passing in 2013.
Chuck is survived by his daughters Cindy and Maria, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Cindy, and grandchildren Tate Kenton (TK), Alec, Charles Albert IV (Chas), Ben, and Mary. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Charolotte (Ray), and Jan Gautschy (Phil) and the nieces, nephews and grands of the families. He was preceded by his brothers and son, Charles (Charlie) Albert Gautschy III, and son-in-law, Alan Goldsberry.
Chuck loved his buddies, golf and the Austin Country Club, his tight bridge group and the crew at Querencia. He was still an avid Great Courses student, having accrued studies in over 400 courses over the years. He was very involved with his church, an Advisor with SCORE, and continued to travel on great international adventures up until his 91st year.
He was never one to stand by and watch, ever, because he would never miss a chance to be a part of the story...and as you know, he loved a good story.
Chuck would leave us with this quote he loved:
“Don’t cry cuz it’s over. Smile cuz it happened.”
