

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Laura Wauneta Henderson, and a sister Betty Morris. Charles is survived by his wife Dollie Elliott Henderson of almost 71 years, his son Gene and wife Tina of Austin. Grandchildren, Krista Buffaloe and husband Justin, of Nokomis, Florida, and Kelley Henderson and Clarence Walker of Plano, Texas. Great grandchildren, Emma Buffaloe and Aubrey Walker. He is also survived by his brothers Clinton Henderson Sr. and Wesley G. Henderson, both of Austin, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Charles and Dollie met and both worked at the Eddie Joseph North Austin drive-in theatre and married on April 26, 1945, in Austin, Texas, and celebrated over 70 years of happily married life, always being together up until his final days. Family and friends will always remember his love of family gatherings during the holidays.
Charles was raised in Austin and joined the Navy at 17 years old after his mother passed away. He returned to Austin and met and married Dollie and they enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and gardening. Charles took great pride in keeping his yard beautiful with numerous plants and flowers. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served on many committees. He was an avid HAM radio operator (W5ALD) for many years. He remained in the Naval Reserve and retired from the Navy after 20 years and retired from the Texas Highway Department Right of Way Division, after more than 38 years. His biggest joy after retirement was spending time with his granddaughters, Krista and Kelley, and “Pawpaw” loved making crafts and playing games with them and cooking for them. He always attended their dance recitals, band concerts, basketball games and other school activities.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12, 2016, from 5 – 8PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 11AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Cook-Walden/Capitol Parks, Pflugerville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 5701 Cameron Road, Austin, TX, or to a memorial of your choice.
