Lee is survived by his wife Gayle of 63 years, two of his sons Allan Hill and his wife Carole of Ocoee, FL, John Hill of Corpus Christi, TX, one of his daughters Laura Castleman and her husband Mark of Mountain View, CA; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Guthrie, John and Anthony Hill, Major, Markley, Miya, and Mila Castleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his son Douglas Lee Hill, his daughter Mary Lynn Clark, and his granddaughter Christiana Hill. Lee was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, airman, teacher, and friend to everyone.
Lee was born in Corbin, KY and grew up in Eubank, KY, son of Rev. C.M. and Nellie (McKeehan) Hill with his sister Geneva. He graduated from Eubank High School where he was an outstanding athlete and member of the basketball team. In 1952 he graduated from Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. He joined the United States Air Force after graduation from college and married his darling wife in 1955. He proudly served his country for 22 years as a Meteorologist serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. His assignments took him to San Antonio, Oklahoma, Bordeaux, France, Indiana, South Carolina, the Belgian Congo in Africa, Florida, Misawa Japan, and Guam. He retired as a Major and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Expert Marksmanship medal, Expeditionary Forces Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
After retirement from the Air Force, Lee was the weekend television weatherman. He obtained his MBA and began his second career as a math teacher at Memorial High School - all in McAllen, Texas. Once moving to Austin, he continued teaching math at Westwood High School until 1997. After his second retirement he continued to tutor high school students in math until recently.
Lee was a man of strong Christian faith serving his God, Country, and Man. He was a friend to everyone, loved to tell stories, and entertained with corny jokes.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Monday, April 15. A military funeral services for Lee will be in the Chapel at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral home at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 16th.
