

Charles Louis Hughes, D.D.S. November 20, 1932 November 29, 2004 Charles Louis Hughes died Monday, November 29, 2004 in Austin. He is survived by his wife Cora Lee Petty Hughes, son John Wilmer Hughes, wife Heather Kay McKenzie, their daughters Kathryn Elizabeth and Helen Rose; and son Louis Roy Hughes, wife Ann Griffith Hughes, their children Martha Elizabeth, Jane Ann, and William Louis. He is preceded in death by his parents Wilmer Hall Hughes and Elizabeth Albright Hughes. Charles was born in Texarkana, Arkansas and after five days moved to Atlanta, Texas where he grew up in his fathers family home. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1951. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City where he completed his residency in oral maxillofacial surgery. He worked in private practice in Elgin, Texas from 1959 to 1962 and in Austin from 1965 to 1996. He was the first board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Austin. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Wedding Ring Sunday School class. He shared many afternoons with his family at Gregory Gym, Clark Field, Disch Faulk Field and Memorial Stadium. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 2nd at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church, Austin.
