
I was blessed to have met Richard about two years ago.  My time with him, although short, was always fun-filled and loaded with laughter.  We were fortunate to spend many special moments together which I will always treasure and will never forget.  One such time was the Saturday before he died.    The room was quiet, the curtain closed.  His nurse, Terel, said I could stay as long as I wanted.  I held Richard's hand and talked to him and sang Christmas carols to him.  "Silent Night, Holy Night" took on a whole new meaning as this was truly a silent night, a holy night.    As I came to the words "Sleep in heavenly peace," I realized my love was pouring out to Richard in a deluge of emotion.  I could no longer contain the feelings that I had been holding inside.  My brave front for all that he had suffered and endured was washed away by my tears.  My appreciation of Richard came tumbling out.    Thank you, Richard, for being so kind, so sweet, so gentle.  A man of humor.  A man of honor.  A man of integrity.  Thank you for the time we got to spend together.  Thank you for being beautiful you.      Besides missing you terribly, my dear Richard, my heartfelt prayer is that you do sleep in heavenly peace - surrounded by all who love you - forever and ever.  Amen.

The loss of a Best Friend, Mentor and Father figure fills my heart with ever lasting pain. You will be missed in so many ways and by so many friends and family. I am truly grateful for the many years we have spent doing so many enjoyable things together but, also your support, trust and loving affection during the tragic times. You will be missed more than words can express. Along with the painful loss of your companionship and our weekly conversations there will always be that special part of my heart where I will relive all the special moments we shared for the man I admired in so many ways. Rest in peace Dad and enjoy the heavens with old friends, new friends and especially the joyish reunion with those loved ones who have been patiently awaiting your arrival. Dad was one of the most wonderful and loving people I have had the opportunity to know. Even though I am the ex-daughter-in-law, he made me feel like I was still a big part of the family.  We shared many wonderful times together during the last three years.  Times that I will remember always!  I miss him so much already and it is hard to realize that I won't see his wonderful, smiling face again.  I will treasure the last visit we had before his hospital stay.  I love you Dad and know you are at peace, walking on the shoreline in heaven.



Grandaddy was a wonderful man.  We loved the way he laughed and acted guffy with the kids.  We will miss him dearly.  We are praying for comfort to his family.  As for me, I already miss all his Maxine and silly e-mails.  We love you.      Whitehurst Family

Richard Knapp was my Dad, my hero.  I know I haven't even begun to fill the whole left in my heart with his passing.  My Dad was a wonderful person, a kind, loving, gentle man.  Our entire family is trying to deal with a life without our Great-Grandaddy, Grandad and Dad.  I will always remember his warm sweet smile and the twinkle in his eyes.  I will always love you and miss you.  I hope you are resting peacefully and it is a comfort to each of us that you are no longer suffering.  The last 3 weeks for you were tough ones, Dad. There are no words to express the ache in my heart left by your passing. I will always cherish the memory of the many good times we had together. Rest well, Dear Friend, I love you.



Howard and I want to express our sympathy to Richard's family and express our sincere love for such a special man.  It has been such a pleasure knowing him through the Retired Chief's group in Austin.  He was such a super guy and we always visited with him at each gathering.  We express our sincere sympathy to your family during this very sad time.



Richard was one of the most outstanding individuals I have ever known and he will be sorely missed.

I shared many good times with Richard. We served together in Thailand; were next store neighbors at BAFB; I was his Best Man at his wedding to Anne; we were class mates at the Senior NCO Academy and First Sergeant School. My wife, Maureen and I have fond memories of Richard and Anne, may they rest in Peace.



The Chief and I shared many memories of our time at 12th AF.  It is always hard to lose a good man but the air power in heaven is stronger with the Chief on board.  My sincerest condolences to the family.  Jim Bridges
