

The daughter of Sohei and Kamado Gibo, she was born in Taira, Okinawa, Japan. She was preceded in death by both parents as well as two older sisters and a brother. Chieko is survived by her husband Bon Garcia; son Takeru Garcia and his wife Arlyn Grunick; and grandson Fredrick. She is also survived by four sisters Hide Taira, Setsuko Shingaki, Toshiko Ikehara, and Sachiko Uezato, along with two very close nieces Michiko Kugimiya and Michiko Fujimori and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Chieko was a member of the Soka Gakkai International of San Antonio as well as Yunano Hana, an Okinawan women's organization in San Antonio. While being a master seamstress, she had a love for making crafts as well as teaching her friends the art of sewing. Chieko was a wonderful singer and loved to sing karaoke and play bingo with friends. She was a devoted friend that loved the bond that true friendship held. Her abundant love was also evident in the time she spent with her grandson and family.
Services will be held at 3pm on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Soka Gakki International located at 7142 San Pedro, San Antonio, Texas 78216.
