Christopher Reed Ashmos Christopher Reed Ashmos, 20, died Wednesday night as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Columbus, TX. He was returning to Austin from Houston where he had seen his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, defeat the Astros. Christopher loved sports and he loved life; a happy child who loved his family and friends. He was set to begin his junior year at Trinity University in San Antonio where he had been the starting second-baseman for two years. Chriss life at Trinity was a joyous experience of College and baseball where the teachers and coaches helped him grow into the fine young man he was. His family will always be indebted to the Trinity faculty, staff, and students who gave him such a rich, exciting experience. Chris was born June 28, 1983, in Austin the son of Donde Plowman and Curtis Ashmos. He burst into life with the same energy, bounce, and sweet spirit that characterized his entire, short life. He attended Doss Elementary School where he made many lifelong friends. He also attended Murchison Middle School where he learned to become a good writer. He graduated from Anderson High School in 2001 where he was named Anderson Male Athlete of the Year as a result of his participation in football, basketball and baseball, the game he loved the most. At Trinity the baseball team, coaches, and parents of players became a home away from home for him. He blossomed in the challenge of the competition, but he also blossomed from the love everyone returned to him. Chris had spent the summer of 2003 playing for the Mill City All-Stars in Lowell, MA, part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Chris was capable of complete acceptance of his friends and family and because of this everyone loved Chris. His younger brother, Kevin Ashmos, has been blessed all his life by Chriss attention, love and praise. In addition to his parents and brother, Chris is survived by his maternal grandparents, Howard and Trudy Plowman of Tulsa, OK; his uncle Tom and aunt Sarah Plowman of Round Rock; his aunt Sandy and uncle Phil Krause of New York, NY; his aunt Vicki and uncle Brad Olson of Dallas; his aunt Jennifer and uncle Chris Youpa of Dallas; and eight cousins. Chris also leaves his extended family; Dennis Duchon, Chjioke Onuoha, Jan Ashmos, Kathryn Cox and Kristen Cox. Chris leaves behind the love of his life, Maggie Murray of Albuquerque, NM, with whom he was making great plans for the future. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at First United Methodist Church, 12th and Lavaca, in Austin. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in Chriss memory will be established to benefit graduates of Anderson High School. Donations should be mailed to Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas 78759, made payable to the Anderson Athletic Foundation. Oh sweet child, sweet child. Our hearts are broken forever.
