

Cipriana O. Salas of Austin passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at the age of 90. She was born July 11, 1916 in Del Valle, Texas. She spent her entire life spreading sunshine and love to her family and multitude of friends. She retired as a Special Education Teachers Aide for the Austin I.S.D. Mrs. Salas was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; two sisters, Rosa Alba and Marcella Barrera; and one brother, Mike Ortiz. Mrs. Salas is survived by three daughters, Grace Kovecsi/Ralph, of Arizona, Bertha (Birdie) Lindsey/John, and Rose Marie Smith/David, of Austin; nine grandchildren, Marcella Hernandez of Austin, Lee Hernandez of San Diego, Candida Hernandez, Veronica Marie Gonzales, John J. Sanchez, Andrea Marrero, and Daniel J. Marrero all of San Antonio, Kim Repka of Refugio, Carlos Marrero of Austin; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delfina Velasquez, Evangelina Moreno, Michaela Lopez; and one brother, Larry Ortiz and wife Nan; and many nieces and nephews. Her family and friends are invited to the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Ave., Austin, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 8. Services will be held Monday, October 9 at 10 a.m. at Parker Lane United Methodist Church, 2105 Parker Lane, Austin under the spiritual direction of Pastor Carlos Cloyd. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be son-in-law Ralph Kovecsi, grandchildren Marcella Hernandez, Lee Hernandez, Sammy Olivo, Carlos Marrero, and nephew Jesse Salas. Honorary pallbearers will be son-in-law John Lindsey, and grandsons John J. Sanchez and Daniel J. Marrero.
