

Colin Michael Camp, age 41, passed away Thursday, October 21st, 2021 from a traumatic brain injury sustained while cycling when he was struck from behind by an impaired driver on June 18th, 2013. He bravely battled his injury for over 8 years.
Colin was born in Madrid, Spain on January 11th 1980 while his father was stationed there with the United States Air Force. He and his family moved from Spain to Louisiana to Turkey before settling in Austin. Colin graduated from the LBJ Science Academy High School in 1998 and then attended SWT in San Marcos. While in high school he played varsity soccer, french horn in concert band and mellophone in marching band.
He started working as a lifeguard for the City of Austin Aquatics Department and worked there for a number of years while in high school and college. He started his career with the Austin Fire Department in 2007 as a firefighter. He was a member of AFD for six years and was assigned to Special Operations during the last four years prior to his injuries in 2013.
Colin loved to live a very active lifestyle starting with playing soccer at age five, which he continued to play into adulthood and in 2013 was playing on three different leagues. He also thoroughly enjoyed cycling, he had done various sanctioned bike rides including the MS150 (in support of Multiple Sclerosis) from Houston to Austin where he worked the event as a medic.
Colin is survived by his parents Richard and Carol, sister Michelle, brothers Paul and Martyn, uncle Laurence and aunt Marion, uncle Dan and aunt Linda, aunt Cindy and Jon, cousins Richard, Heather, Chris, Brian, Mallory and Nick, nieces Victoria and Alaya and nephews Toby and Eli. He is preceded in death by grandparents Reginald and Margaret, Avery and Ruth, and uncle Thomas.
The family has so many people to thank over the last eight years, especially the Austin Fire Department family for all their support which has been immeasurable.
A Service of Remembrance will be held this Saturday, November the 13th, at 10am at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home at 14501 N IH35 in Pflugerville. The service will be live-streamed through the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks website for anyone that would like to view it. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow later that day for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any donations be made in Colin’s name to the Austin Firefighters Benevolent Fund, Austin Firefighters Relief and Outreach Fund or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
