

Dan Carey Elliott of Austin, Texas died peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his home with his wife at his side. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 3, 1951, Dan was the son of Dan Elliott and Olevia Jones. He grew up in Louisiana with seven brothers and sisters where he graduated Jefferson high school. He has been a resident of Austin, Texas since 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Elliott; sisters, Ceola Dumas, Octavia Raymond and Terrell Williams; and brothers, Darryl Elliott and Fredrick Elliott, all of Louisiana. He is also survived by his son, Fallon Proctor and wife, Kenya of North Carolina; daughter, Denise Bourdeaux and husband, Eddie of Maryland; as well as step-children, Robert Rosenthal of Austin, Texas and Amy Peevey of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons, Fallon, Kyle and Sidney Procter and Damion and Zachary Brom, as well as numerous extended family members. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Frank Raymond, Jr and Maverick Elliott; and step-son, Gary Rosenthal.
In his youth, Dan enjoyed painting and the arts, as well as sports. He always wanted to make a good appearance when out with friends. To maintain the latest fashion trends, he earned extra money by cutting hair of family and friends. Dan was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 60 in Louisiana prior to becoming disabled. He then moved to Austin, Texas where he was an accomplished woodworker for many years. It was in Austin that he met and married the love of his life, his partner and inseparable companion, Judy Kunetka Peevey. They were married for 21 years. Along with owning several businesses, they loved to travel, garden and above all cook and enjoy good food. Dan was well known for his gumbo, red beans and rice, and his famous crawfish eggplant stuffing, which always brought everyone to the table at family dinners.
Dan was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for over 30 years where he sponsored and helped guide numerous fellow alcoholics to a life of sobriety. He counted the members of AA as his family and enjoyed the best years of his life in their fellowship. Visitation will be at 9:00am Thursday, July 10th at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home at 3125 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Services will follow at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr., Austin, Texas 78731.
