

Mr. David Gaytan, 93, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, TX surrounded by his loving family.
David was a proud World War II veteran, where he served 4 years with the Army Air Force. He was a Supply Sergeant from 1943-1946 at Myrtle Beach Bombing Range, Myrtle Beach, S. C. David was the recipient of the American Theatre Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
David came to the Rio Grande Valley on September 11, 1952 from Austin, Texas after graduating from Nixon Clay College. David was transferred from the Austin, Texas Sears Store to the Brownsville store to take the position of Shipping and Receiving Manager with Sears Roebuck & Co. In June of 1987, David retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. after 37 years of faithful service.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. David was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Dolores Lopez Gaytan; daughter, Judy Gaytan; son, David Gaytan; mother, Maria Gaytan; father, Urbano Gaytan; brother, Gonzalo (Joe) Gaytan; and sister, Raye Diaz.
David is survived by two daughters, Marie Christine Weaver of Schertz, Texas, Laura Patricia Gaytan of San Antonio, Texas; a son, David Gerard Gaytan of Brownsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Eddie Sosa Jr., James Mathew Weaver, Nicole Weaver and Skyler Flores; three sisters all from Austin, Texas, Janie Martinez, Jenara Zendejas, Terry Pena.
Honored to be his pallbearers are his nephews, Joseph Serafin Pena, Matt Martinez, III, Robert Mario Diaz, Jesse Zendejas, and grandsons, Eddie Sosa Jr., James Matthew Weaver.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 19, 2012 at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery with Military Honors.
