
David started and managed several businesses over his lifetime, making lifelong friends, associates, and memories along the way. From Real Estate in Houston to the Herring family Oil and Gas business eventually known as David Herring Interests, Inc. David worked hard and gained great success; his business will continue on by his family and for his family.
David was an avid golfer and greatly valued the many friendships he made on the golf course. He particularly enjoyed competing in tournaments and displaying in his home the many trophies he won throughout the years.
David graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in math. He was a member of the alumni association and an avid longhorn fan. David was an active member of Barton Creek Country Club for many years as well as a member of Terra Vista golf club.
David married JoAnn Fudge with whom he had his one and only child, Rodney Lee Herring. Rodney is married to Joyce Herring, and they have 2 children, Daniel Lee Herring and Melissa Anne Herring Brooks, married to Brian Christopher Brooks. David has 4 great-grandchildren, Allysen Jane Herring, Levi Herring, Jackson Lee Brooks and Ryder Austin Brooks. David was married to Kathy Walsh Herring with whom he had a stepson Daryl Brown. At the time of David’s passing, he was married to Barbara Gayle Hall Herring with whom he had a stepdaughter, Carrie Sell Withie; Carrie has 4 children, Amber, Justin, Kristin, and KateLyn and several grandchildren who all thought the world of David.
Above all, David loved his family, and we are blessed to have many happy memories spending time with him. He had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter Melissa. He was so proud of her and her family. Holidays, birthdays, and special occasions were almost always spent at David’s son’s home in Round Rock. David always looked forward to Father’s Day weekend where we would all gather to celebrate Father’s Day and his Birthday. David loved to tell stories about the Herring family, his hunting adventures on his father’s ranch, and growing up in Three Rivers. David and Rod would hang out at the bar-b-que pit where Rod cooked everything from ribs to brisket to chicken. David was the quality control taste tester. Father and son greatly enjoyed those times together.
David is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann O’Neal who is married to Pat O’Neal, they reside in San Antonio, Texas. David has 2 grandchildren, Daniel Lee Herring, and Melissa Anne Herring Brooks. David has 4 great grandchildren, Allysen and Levi Herring, and Jackson and Ryder Brooks. David is survived by his life-long friend Tommy Forehand of Three Rivers, Texas, Niece Robin Forehand Dockery and her husband Richard Dockery, Nephew Mark Forehand, and the extended Herring family.
David is preceded in death by his parents Ollie and Blanche Herring of Three Rivers, Texas,
David’s wish was to have his ashes scattered on his family ranch in Three Rivers, Texas; a family ceremony will be held in Three Rivers. A Celebration of Life will be held in Austin, Texas at a day and time to be announced.
