

David Joe Mitchell, Retired MSGT of the U.S. Air Force, 87 of Austin, Texas and passed on October 8, 2017. He was born December 8, 1929 in Dallas, Texas. He is predeceased by his wife Mildred (Mickey) Mitchell of 55 years.
David is survived by his three daughters: Suzanne Mitchell Gumpl, Kathryn Mitchell Foley and her husband Milton Foley, and Dava Mitchell Watson and her husband Daniel “Ashley” Watson.
David had 5 grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Mitchell Gumpl and his wife Natalie Gumpl, Michelle Rupanovic and her husband Richard Rupanovic, Christopher Watson and his wife Stephanie Watson, Timothy Watson and his fiancé Hannah Feiner and Joshua Watson as well as two step granddaughters he considered his own: Shanna Stauffacher and her husband John Stauffacher, and Kerri Foley and her partner Tim Cromey.
David had 6 great grandchildren- David, Blythe, Michael and Caroline Gumpl and Mitchell and Aubrey Rupanovic.
David served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He was a veteran of both the Korea and Vietnam Wars. The first part of his Air Force career, he was a radio operator on B-52’s and later transitioned to the Radar Bomb Squadron until his retirement. His second career was in Real Estate as a salesman and broker and owner of the Mitchell Group Real Estate and Insurance.
He loved sports, he loved coaching his grandkids in football, baseball, and basketball. He attended as many games, recitals and concerts as he possibly could. He enjoyed golf, live music and volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Respite group at church.
He battled leukemia and Alzheimer’s. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family would like to thank the staff at Pecan Ridge Memory Care Home and Dr. Liam Fry and her associates, and the 4th floor nursing staff at Dell Seton Hospital for their excellent care.

There will be a visitation on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas. A Graveside Service to follow at 2:00 P.M. at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
