

Dennis Chester Hannusch, 92, was greeted on the morning of May 13, 2014, by his heavenly father after losing his 7 year struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on April 17, 1922, in Winchester, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vera Louise Jentho Hannusch, his two children, Lisa Hannusch and Scott Hannusch along with his daughter-in-law Lupita Hannusch and grandson Dennis C. Hannusch.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Anna Hannusch and his oldest brother Hugo. He is loved by his remaining siblings Gene and Lavonia and sister-in-law Gladys Wukasch along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dennis was known as a God-loving sweetest husband, father, and man around. After serving his country in Italy during WWII, he returned to marry his hometown sweetheart and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. He graduated with a degree in business and started a successful career supporting clients and being a positive role model for his employees. He served the Lord his entire life including almost 50 years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, and various other officer and supporting roles. He retired from Southern Union Gas after 35 dedicated years. After retirement, he decided to work part-time for a start-up company, National Instruments, for another 10 years. He was also active in the community participating in Civitan and Junior Achievement. He loved to stay active enjoying traveling, dancing, dominoes, walking, fishing, beekeeping, wine-making, and collecting stamps, coins, and antique magazine advertisements.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Colonial Gardens for their loving care in the last few months. A memorial fund has been established in his name as part of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 15th of May 2014, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
A Funeral services will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 16th of May 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas with Pastors Schroder and Westergren officiating. Interment will follow in Winchester, Texas at 2:30 pm under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
