

Dicke Wayne Patterson passed away on August 18, 2016, ten days shy of his 70th birthday. He was born in Knox City, Texas to Boyd Wayne and Vera Nance Patterson. He graduated from Munday High School in 1964 and attended Sul Ross University where he was a research assistant in the biology department, focusing on native plants in the area.
Dicke owned and operated North Lamar Evergreen Nursery for many years, later taking a position at It’s a Jungle. He was a member of the National Rose Society and was a featured speaker at the Austin Rose Society. Dicke could grow the most beautiful roses, orchids and vegetables. One could not visit Dicke without a tour of his garden.
Survivors include his former wife Diana, and their three sons, Michael and wife Chris, Samuel and wife Beth, Zachary and wife Maria; grandchildren, William, Jennifer, Parker, Hannah, Spencer, Alex, Kaela, Jacob and Bella; sisters, Patte Patterson Wood and husband Gary and Kim Patterson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78753.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Austin Rose Society or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
