Dolores Pabor was born on December 7, 1927 to Arthur Olai and Anna Carolina (Paulsrud) Reine, at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during a blizzard. She was baptized as a child of God on February 3, 1928, and entered into eternal life on March 19, 2021, at the age of 93.
During most of her childhood, she lived in cities throughout the eastern U.S. where her father supervised the construction of public buildings: Cedar Rapids IA, Kansas City, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Chambersburg PA, and Terre Haute IN. In 1941, her family moved to Houston, Texas and became members of St. John Lutheran Church, where she met Rev. Louis Pabor. Pastor Pabor confirmed her in 1942, and three years later Dolores and Louie were married on October 2, 1945. During the next 22 years, Pastor Pabor was called to Lutheran churches in Houston, Eola, and Lubbock, Texas, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and back to Houston. Louie and Dolores raised a family of seven children along the way. They were called to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas in the spring of 1967. Dolores remained a member of Redeemer until her death.
The Holy Spirit blessed Dolores with many vocations throughout her life: daughter, sister, Pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, relative to so many cousins, nephews, and nieces, church member, and neighborhood friend. Through these vocations she served God by serving others. Dolores was asked to fill in “temporarily” as church secretary at Redeemer, and stayed for 18 years. She was a member of Redeemer Dorcas Society, a TLC Bible Study Group, the Balcones Hills Women’s Club, and the Optimistic Garden Club. Anyone who knocked on their door knew they would be offered a drink from Louie and a meal from Dolores. Her greatest joys were sharing her life with Louie in their marriage of 57 years, and raising her seven children, sharing their joys and carrying their burdens as they lived their lives and raised their own families.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louie, on June 29, 2003; parents Arthur and Anna Reine; sister Marian Koch and brother-in-law Jimmy Koch; son-in-law Buddy Blankenship; grandson-in-law John Gunstream; nephew-in-law Tommy Costales; and son-in-law Wade Hudson.
She is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Judy Blankenship, John Pabor, Caroline Whitley, Paul and Karen Pabor, Ruth and John Heinitz, Louis and LuAnne Pabor, and Cathy and Britt Alexius; 17 grandchildren with 9 spouses; 25 great-grandchildren with 3 spouses; and two great-great-grandchildren; her brother Art Reine and wife Mildred; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints! She walked the pilgrim road covered in the righteousness that Jesus won on the cross for her. She lived every day as a baptized daughter of her heavenly Father and now rejoices with the Church Triumphant.
