Don Cunningham was born in Dallas, Texas on July 27, 1926. He was the son of Ruth Black of Bowie, Texas and Sterling Cunningham of Bismarck, Illinois. His parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert preceded him in death. He attended Armstrong elementary and Highland Park High School in Dallas before entering The University of Texas.
College was interrupted by World War II. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre of the war as a Quartermaster 1st class aboard an LSM.
Under the G.I. Bill, after the war, he completed his BBA at the University of Texas. Later he earned his C.L.U. and CHFC insurance industry designations as well as a Masters in Financial Services. Don was successful in Insurance Agency and Sales Management. He was the recipient of every award given locally, statewide and nationwide for his achievement in his work.
He was loved and admired by Irene his wife of 65 years and sons Dale (Jean Percy), Larry (Carol Williams), and Father Michael (Deborah Dunn) of Lompoc, CA; and three grandchildren.
A special thank you to his son Larry for his loving care of his dad these past two years. Additionally, the family says thank you to Paolo Venegoni, M.D. and Sami Aboumatar, M.D. for their skilled care of Don.
A memorial service for Don, for family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, Valentine's Day, at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, to express gratitude for the love that was a great part of Don Cunningham's Life and Family.
