Donna grew up in Washington DC and Silver Spring, Maryland, and was a graduate of Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News, VA in 1972. She was employed by the State of Texas for over thirty years; first, with the Commission for the Blind in Lubbock, TX, and then with the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services in Austin, TX. She loved her job and found great joy in volunteering at the Austin Humane Society on weekends.
Donna had the most genuine, kind heart with an infectious smile and laugh. She cared about other people and animals more than herself. She was the definition of unconditional love and had infinite compassion for all walks of life, without judgment. She had an aura about her, a glow that was so bright, it had no choice but to burn out earlier than most. She exuded a happiness and lightness that was rare and contagious. Her special touch with animals was as if they shared a private language. She was very loving and loved by everyone. Donna was beautiful, inside and out.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Brown of Washington, D.C., and her former husband, best friend, and father of her children, Bill F. Gray of Lubbock, TX. Survivors include her mother, Joan Culkin of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Jordan Gray of Austin, TX; son, Brandon Gray of Denver, CO; granddaughter, Reyah Gray of Denver, CO; sister, Tracey Friedman of Valencia, CA. and niece, Taylor Friedman of Valencia, CA.
Memorial services followed by a reception will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. in Austin.
