Doris Nolte Walker was born on August 8, 1916 to the late Herman Jefferson and Ida Jirasek Nolte in San Gabriel, TX. She was the third of four children and spent her early childhood years in the San Gabriel area. The family would move to Thrall, TX, where she would graduate from Thrall High School. She stayed connected as a proud Thrall Tiger for all of her years, rarely missing a class reunion.
Doris spent most of her young adult years in the Austin area working for various employers. She served Fort Hood as a civilian employee during World War II. Following the war, she met a young veteran named Thomas Archie Walker. Tommy and Doris were wed on April 10, 1947. They celebrated 48 years of marriage before Tommy’s passing in 1996.
Doris and Tommy spent most of their years in the Austin area, except for a time when Tommy’s work would take them out of the area or state. The family would eventually settle in Pflugerville, moving into the home on Hebbe Lane in 1973. Doris would also settle into her life’s work, joining the staff of the Internal Revenue Service where she served for thirty plus years. Doris was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Pflugerville. She loved to go to church or anywhere else. She enjoyed antiquing with Tommy and working their booth at the Flea Market.
Doris passed away on December 20, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. Lois Stewart, Marjorie Cowen, and Vernon Nolte. She is survived by her niece and great nieces, Karen Bagley of Bossier City, LA and her three children; Gene Bagley Jr., Gary Lee Bagley, and Gwen Bagley Payne, all of Bossier City, LA. She is also survived by her nephew James Nolte of Wilson, TX. Another niece and a great niece and nephew, Terry and Larry Thomas of Baird, TX, along with their two children, James Brody Thomas of Baird, TX and Morgan and Josh McBride of Abilene, TX survive her.
The family is grateful for all condolences. Persons choosing to offer memorial gifts in lieu of flowers are encouraged to contribute to the First United Methodist Church, 500 E. Pecan, Pflugerville, TX or the charity of their choice. The internment service will be conducted at the Taylor City Cemetery, following this service.
