

Dorothy Marshall passed away on October 21, 2014. Born in Kansas City, MO on November 30, 1927, she was the youngest of 10 children born to Catherine Rene Elledge and William H. Elledge. Dottie graduated from Manuel High School in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of the USO during the war, and worked as a secretary in the motor pool at Camp Stoneman, CA. She returned to Kansas City and started a job at the Hallmark Greeting Co. While wrapping gifts one day she noticed a young man loitering at the back of the line. He eventually worked his way to the front of the line and asked her to wrap a dime. She wrapped the dime and charged the young pharmacy student a quarter. And that is how she met Russ Marshall. Dorothy and Russ Were married on September 30, 1947. They settled in St Louis, MO where she made their home.
In February, 1957 their only son Mark was born. Dorothy settled into motherhood with great aplomb. She could bake a cake, make a toy, create a Halloween costume, conduct a backyard religion class, and cook for the company Christmas party and set-up the neighborhood block party without breaking a sweat. She began work at St Margaret Mary Alacoque as the school secretary in 1965. While At SMMA, she and a group of parents started the first Boy Scout Troop at the parish. She always relished her time there. After Russ become ill, Dottie was his primary caregiver until his death. In 1992, Dottie and Russ moved to Austin, TX. She became active in several ministries at St Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church including the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Dottie and her friends at St. Catherine shared many adventures and good times including late night card games. She will be dearly missed by all. The family would like to thank the staff at Regency Village Care Center, New Century Hospice and Dr. Gerald Levy for their care of Dottie in her final years.
She is survived by her sister, Margie of Kansas City, KS; son Mark and daughter-in-law Suzanne; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Angie; and a host of good friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church with Father Pat Coakley Celebrant, 4800 Convict Hill Austin, Tx.
