

She was born to Sterling James and Martha Pagles Layton in Henrietta, Texas. Dorothy married Karl Waldron Jr. at Christ Episcopal Church in Dallas. They moved to Karl's hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota where she spent what she often recalled as the happiest days of her life raising her small two children.
Dorothy Ann and her family moved from Minneapolis to St. John's Newfoundland, later residing in South Hadley, Massachusetts where they were founding members of All Saints Episcopal Church and where they made lifelong dear friends.
Following her husband's death Dorothy moved from Alexandria, Virginia to Austin, Texas where she was Supervisor, Retained Personnel Records Branch, Branch Adjutant General's Department until her retirement at 72. It was here in Austin that she met her long time friend John Tubb who preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a member of the Minneapolis Woman's Club, along with her mother-in-law and her sister-in-law, the Austin Women's Club and PEO. She spent many happy hours volunteering at Seton Hospital in their nursery and serving Thanksgiving dinners at the Austin Salvation Army with John. She was an active member of University Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son Charles Layton Waldron and daughter Deborah Ann Taggart; son-in-law Davis Lew Taggart; two grandsons James Merritt Taggart and Paul Layton Taggart; two great granddaughters Scout Elise Taggart and Dylan Anne Taggart; and one great grandson Redford Layton Taggart.
Dorothy Ann was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and her husband.
The family would like to thank her dedicated and compassionate caretakers; Erma, Maggie, Carrie, Cheryl, Margie, Sandra and Sewande; and the wonderful Hospice Austin staff.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 27, 2015 at University Presbyterian Church, 2230 San Antonio Street, Austin, Texas. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interred with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome to Camp C.O.P.E., 6119 Greenville Ave., #625, Dallas, TX 75206; a volunteer organization that serves the children and families of deployed, wounded or fallen soldiers.
