

Dorothy Gay Warren was born November 3, 1925 in Springfield, MO, the only child of Mary Edith Pryor and Earnest Gay. Dottie grew up in Missouri and graduated from Drury University in 1947. In 1999 Dottie returned to Drury to receive the Distinguished Alumnae Award. Dottie died August 8, 2011.
In 1948 Dottie married Eugene Wesley Warren. They lived in Rollo, MO where her husband finished his engineering degree from the University of Missouri in Rolla, following his service in World War II. They lived in Ft. Lewis, WA during the Korean War.
In 1952 they moved to Liberty, TX where her husband was area engineer for Gulf Oil. In 1963 he founded Warren Engineering. After her husband’s untimely death in 1969, Dottie remained in Liberty to raise their only child.
In Liberty, Dottie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, served on the administrative board, and a member of the Chancel Choir.
Dottie was a charter member of the American Association of University Women in Liberty, President of the Woman’s Club, Theatre Group, Board of Trustees for Liberty City Library, Delta Kappa Gamma, and first woman to serve as an officer on the Board of Directors, Liberty Country Club, and Historical Society and on the planning commission for Liberty’s Sesquicentennial. Dottie was a first grade teacher in the Liberty Schools for 20 years.
In 1986 Dottie moved to Austin, to be near her family. In 1988 she became a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She served on the ECW Board, President of St. Anne’s Guild, Wednesday Prayer group and taught in the Good Shepherd School for 5 years.
Dottie was a member of the Women’s Symphony League, Austin Woman’s Club and a docent at the LBJ Library for over 20 years, UT Exes, Blanton Museum.
Kappa Delta Sorority has always been a main force in Dottie’s life – serving as president of her college chapter and on the staff of Nat’l Kappa Delta after graduation. In Liberty, she organized a Pan-Hellenic Association. When she moved to Austin, she helped re-organize the alumni association – and served as president for 6 years. In 1947 Dottie was a page at the National Convention. Fifty years later at Kappa Delta’s 100th celebration she received the prestigious Alumni Emerald award. Dottie was a member of the White Rose Circle and in 2005 was honored by National Kappa Delta for 60 years as a loyal and devoted Kappa Delta.
Dottie is survived by her beloved daughter, Gay Warren Gaddis and husband Lee, the joy of her life, her granddaughter Rebecca Wesley Gaddis, and grandsons Ben and Sam.
Dottie leaves her dog family Emma and Cleo and a lifelong love for dogs.
A memorial service celebrating Dottie’s life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011 officiated by the Rev. Dr. Ann Normand.
