Dorothy Louise Weiss

Dorothy Louise Weiss passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2007. She was born March 30, 1919 in the Salem Community, Washington County, near Brenham, Texas, the daughter of Charles H. and Johanna Sprain Weiss. She was baptized in Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. Johannes Mgebroff, May 18, 1919 and later confirmed by Rev. William Utesch, March 20, 1932. Dorothy attended Pleasant Hill rural school and Blinn College. She was employed by Perry Brothers in Brenham and later as cashier for the Lower Colorado River Authority. She transferred to the office in Giddings, Texas where she worked for a number of years in a clerical capacity. In 1958 she was employed as secretary to the President of the Texas District American Lutheran Church in Austin, which later became a part of the Southern District. After her retirement in 1984, she was employed part time for Casa Verde Florist. She was a member of The American Lutheran Church in various cities where she lived from the time of her birth. At the time of her death, Dorothy was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church where she had been a member of the choir, the Altar Guild and had served on various committees. Throughout her life, she was involved with various phases of church work. Dorothy loved her immediate family and her larger family of friends. For many years she participated in and enjoyed Square Dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Stern; two brothers, Louis W. Weiss and Luther Weiss; a brother-in-law, Erwin Stern; and a nephew and godchild, James Stern. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Clemence and Doris Weiss of Brenham; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Madeline and John Blasienz of Bryan and Jo and Leonard Addicks of Austin; sisters-in-law, Verbie Weiss of Brenham and Inez Weiss of Rockdale; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th Street in Austin. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brenham. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Addicks, Mark Addicks, Randy Bassett, David Blasienz, Nathan Kokemor, Joel Kokemor, Randy Mercer, David Stern, Charles Weiss, Gary Weiss, Leighton Weiss, Ray Weiss, Paul Weiss, Todd Weiss, Randy Ullrich, Greg Weiss.
