Dorothy Sansom Wiseth Dorothy S. Wiseth, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008, in Austin, Texas, after years of battling Alzheimers. She was born Dorothy Mae Sansom on November 7, 1917 in Dwight, North Dakota, near Wahpeton where she was raised. At the age of 6 her Mother passed away at the same time that her Father was in a TB sanitarium, so Dorothy, along with her 2 sisters and brother, were split up and raised by relatives in the general area. She out-survived them all. After high school, she studied business in college, then accepted a government job in Washington, D.C. shortly before World War II. There Dorothy met the love of her life, Joseph Wiseth, who she married in 1946. They soon settled in Texas, where they enjoyed 55 years together (most of it in Austin) before Joseph’s death in 2001. Dorothy was a very active, long-time member of the First Presbyterian church in Austin, held several federal government positions, and did volunteer work in her retirement years. She was a true gentlewoman with a sincere warmth and caring, whose first priority was always her husband and 2 children; and who easily made many life-long friends. In fact a lot continued to seek out her company even after Alzheimers had begun to erode her social skills. Survivors are her son, Bob, who resides in Maryland with his wife, Arlene; Arlene’s son, Marc Axelbaum, who resides in California with his wife, Katherine, and their new-born son, Charles; and Dorothy’s daughter, Cindi, who resides in the Netherlands with her husband, Jasper, and their 2 children, Giselle and Rene. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Westminster Manor Chapel, 4100 Jackson Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church on Mesa Drive or to the Alzheimers Association. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
