Doyle James Taylor, age 76, of Austin, went to be with the Lord, Sunday July 24, 2005. He fought the good fight and died from complications related to leukemia (AML). We will forever miss his kind and gentle spirit; those sweet little eyes and his wonderful sense of humor. He was born in Winnsboro, TX. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley; daughter Susan Baker and husband Richard of The Woodlands, TX; grandsons Jake and Harrison; sister Fleeta Taylor Lynch and husband Louis Buddy of Kerrville, TX; brother Ray of Norman, OK; three nephews, Lowell Fowler and wife Sue and sons York and Darin of Austin; Larry Taylor and wife Rachelle (Meghan and Alex); Jimmy Taylor and wife Nancy of Moore, OK; nieces Donna Barrett and Charles of CA and Alexandra and Marty Cowart of Dallas; brother-in-law Raymond Fowler and sister-in-law Louise Taylor; grand nephews Jason Taylor, Kenneth Taylor and families; and grand nieces Amy Taylor and Wendy and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Foy, Uther and Dick and sister, Una Fowler. Doyle graduated from Oklahoma University in 1950, during which the last 3 years he served in The Air National Guard. He was then accepted to USAF Pilot Training at Reese AFB in Texas. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and served on active duty in the USAF for 22 years; retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973. His military assignments in the Air Force took his family to many places they were stationed in Turkey and Germany as well as Hamilton AFB and Mather (CA), Langley (VA), Andrews (Washington, DC), among others. Doyle loved spending time with friends and family, opening his stocking on Christmas morning, shopping on E-Bay, watching his grandsons learn and grow, Central Market, his wife Shirley, his antique car and truck and the friends in the Capitol City As, his dogs Carly and Tramp, his daughter Susan and son-in-law Richard. A heart felt thank you to the wonderful nurses at Seton hospital IMC, ICU, and especially the 7th floor. Thank you as well to all the doctors that cared for him; and of course the support of our friends and family we could not have made it through without all of you. In memory of Doyle, the family asks that you take time out of your day to do something kind and unexpected for someone. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or the Travis County Animal Shelter. Our lives are enriched because you have touched them and we are blessed to have known you. Goodbye Honey, Dad, Arfather (Arfawder), Doyle. We love you and will see you again in the blink of an eye. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park with full military honors.
