Dudley Daniel Gardner died October 25, 2012, at his home. He was born on February 29, 1916, to Dudley and Maude Gardner in Ashley County, Arkansas. Our father grew up during the depression in Hamburg, Arkansas. He was the 5th of 6 children, all of whom were exceptionally bright.
When World War II broke out Dad joined the Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific theatre. He was a career military man, serving for 23 years. He was in the Strategic Air Command for the majority of his military tenure, serving during the cold war. After his children, his service to his country was his greatest source of pride. Although the military took our family all over the world, Dad always managed to pick up an Arkansas Razorback football game. He was their biggest fan.
After retiring he began his own business as a manufacturers' representative for many of the major boat and water ski companies. He retired from his business and spent the next 25 years with his wife in Buda, Texas, minding one of Hays County's finest home vegetable gardens. More recently, he and our mother resided at the Continental Retirement Community enjoying the company of many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carlise Boykin Gardner, who died August 24 of this year. They are united now for all time.
He is survived by his daughter Gail and husband Barry McAtee, son Danny and wife Faye Gardner, son Scott Gardner and wife Pascale Vial, sister Imodene Gardner Kelly, niece Kathy Pugh both of Baton Rouge, three grandchildren, Sarah Caldwell, Jenny and husband Scott Daughtry, Jason and wife Karla Gardner, and two great-granddaughters, Faye and Charlotte Daughtry.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. Funeral Service 10:00 am on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Graveside Service to follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
Those wishing to honor our father's passing may make a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization benefiting our nation's veterans.
