Edgar “Ed” Lanier Owens, 82, of Burnet, Texas, passed away Friday, October 26, at Oaks Nursing Center in Burnet. Ed was born on October 25, 1936 to Kenneth Edgar and Kathryn Lanier Owens in Cushman, Arkansas.
Ed married Sharon Muzzy Owens in Mountain View, Arkansas, on April 17, 1960.
Ed received a BSE degree in math at the Arkansas State Teacher's College, now University of Central Arkansas. He was part owner of his family's children's clothing stores, Jack 'n' Jill, for 25 years. He was a member of the Army National Guard, in which he served 20 years. During that time, he was deployed to Vietnam in 1964-65, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and other decorations. He was a helicopter pilot and instructor. He received ranks of Captain and Chief Warrant Officer 4.
Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served in many positions throughout his life. He was a member of the Burnet First United Methodist Church at the time of his death.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents. Ed is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Kenneth Owens (Krista) of Austin, Texas, Steven Owens (Rene') of Garland, Texas, and Jana Teague (Jason) of Burnet, Texas; brother, James Owens (Pat) of Benton, Arkansas; sister, Mary Alice Wiles (Rick) of Jacksonville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Burnet First United Methodist Church, 301 E. Graves, Burnet, Texas, with Edgar's son-in-law, Reverend Jason Teague, officiating. An interment ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church Columbarium, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas, with Tom Deviney officiating.
