Edith S Scott

Edith Scott, cherished wife, devoted mother, and esteemed nurse, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024. Born in Schulenburg, Texas, on June 23, 1925, Edith led a remarkable life marked by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Edith's journey began in Schulenburg, where she excelled academically, graduating as the valedictorian and serving as a spirited cheerleader at Schulenburg High School in 1942, at the tender age of 16 turning 17 later that summer. She aspired to go to nursing school, but due to her age of 17, she entered Southwest Texas University pursuing a bachelors degree. The next year, Edith was able to pursue her dream and enrolled in the John Sealy Hospital nursing program from 1944-1946 graduating with a nursing diploma. During those years, Edith also selflessly served as a member of the United States Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II.

On June 30, 1946, Edith married her beloved husband, Archie Scott, embarking on a journey of love, partnership, and shared dreams. Their union blessed them with four children, Karen, Trey, Eric, and Clifford, who were the center of Edith's world. From 1949 to 1966, Edith devoted herself to nurturing and raising her children with boundless love and care.

Edith's altruistic spirit extended beyond her family, as she was deeply involved in Girl Scouting from the 1930s to the 1970s. She was the nurse at Girl Scouts Camp Texlake in the late 1960s, shaping the lives of countless young girls with her guidance and mentorship. As her children grew older and more independent, Edith embarked on a fulfilling career as a nurse, beginning her tenure at St. David's Hospital in the 1960s, where she worked tirelessly in the Labor and Delivery room during the late-night shift.

Around 1969, Edith transitioned to a role at a privately owned allergy clinic, where she dedicated 25 years of her life to caring for patients with warmth and expertise, leaving an indelible mark on all those she served. In the early 1970s, Edith returned to Southwest Texas State University to pursue her bachelor's degree, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

Edith will be fondly remembered as a pillar of strength in her community, renowned for her nursing prowess, passion for scouting, and her profound connection to nature. An avid gardener, insect collector, and bird watcher, Edith found solace and joy in the beauty of the natural world. She was a founding member of St. Mark's Methodist Church and was recently honored with the dedication of the wildflower field she lovingly cultivated.

Edith leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, cherished by her four children, Karen, Trey, Eric, and Clifford, along with her eight grandchildren, Greg, Derek, Nathan, Vanessa, Skylar, Audra, Steevi, and Cole, her seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Mark's Methodist Church in memory of Edith Scott. A celebration of Edith's life will be held at St. Mark's Methodist Church on May 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her remarkable legacy. There will be graveside services in the Schulenburg Cemetery at 2PM the same day. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering kindness, generosity, and love.

Serving as pallbearers are Clifford Scott (Son), Eric Scott (Son), Cole Scott (Grandson), Derek Scott (Grandson), Skyler Scott (Grandson) and Will Kyle (Grandson In-Law).
