

Edwin Reinhold York, Jr. Edwin Reinhold York, Jr. died Saturday, July 14, 2007. He was born in Austin, Texas, a third generation Texan. He was the only child of Edwin R. York and Carolyn Richter York. His father was a native of Gatesville and his mother a native of Fredericksburg, Texas. His father was active in State and local politics, including service as Assistant Adjutant General of Texas, a member of the Industrial Accident Board of Texas and a practicing Attorney until his death in 1951. His mother died in Austin in 1953. He attended Public Schools and the University of Texas where he was a President of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity, Silver Spurs Honorary Service Organization, Student Assemblyman from Law, Cactus Goodfellow, Chairman Union Activities Council, Editor, The Peregrinus Law Annual, Chairman, Second Annual Law Day, Consul Awardee of Law School, Vice President First Year Law, member Student Faculty Advisory Council and Student Presidents Advisory Cabinet, member of the Mens Glee Club, the Curtain Club, the A Capella Choir, and Radio House. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1949 and a Bachelor of Law in 1956. He entered the Air Corps as an Aviation Student in 1943 and was released from service in 1946 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Adjutant General Corps. He reentered service from 1949-1951 a total of 6 years active duty, 2 years in Europe as Captain in AGC in Reserve. Upon graduation from Law school in 1956 he became a titleman in the Land Department of Humble Oil & Refining Company in Houston, Texas. He was later transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana. Ed joined the firm of McCreary, Huey, and Eskew in 1966 and resigned in 1977 to start his own law firm in Corsicana, Texas. He set up his own practice in Corsicana, collecting delinquent property taxes for schools, cities and counties. Ed loved to travel and was a Life Member of the UT Ex Students Association and traveled widely with UT Flying Longhorns, as well as many trips to Europe accompanied by his wife, Sara. He was a loyal member of the Rotary Club and served as president of the West Austin Rotary and was more recently a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sara; his son, Robert York and wife Suzanne of Corsicana; daughter, Elise McGarrah and Husband Mark of Austin; son, Scott York and wife Kristin of Jonestown; grandchildren, Brenna, Hayden, Katie, Anna, Drake, Griffin, Dalton, and Vaughn; and by a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Dr. Ralph Smith, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ed to the Austin Rotary Club, Silver Spurs Honorary Organization at UT, Hyde Park Baptist Church, American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice.
